Thursday, May 1, 2025

Labour Day, observed on May 1st, is a tribute to the invaluable contributions and resilient spirit of workers across the globe. It is a day to honor the struggles and achievements that have shaped workers' rights and to recognize the vital role they play in society. This year, the theme for International Labour Day was "Safety and Health of Workers", emphasizing the need for safe, secure, and healthy work environments.

To commemorate this important occasion, Delhi Public School, Jammu organized a series of thoughtful and engaging activities across various classes. A Special Assembly was conducted by the students of Class VII-I, compered by Sadah Mir. The assembly began with a soulful prayer by Kavyansh, followed by a melodious rendition of the labour-themed song "Saathi Haath Badhana". A powerful skit performed by Arhaan, Abu, Sarish, Kamya, Azim, and Reeva highlighted the daily efforts and struggles of workers, leaving a deep impression on the audience. Aryan led the students in a pledge, reinforcing the values of dignity of labour and gratitude.

As part of the celebration, a Gratitude Card-Making Activity was held wherein students created heartfelt cards expressing their appreciation for the school’s helpers.

The Pre-Primary Block also hosted a special assembly to recognize the efforts of our unsung heroes. Young learners dressed up as various essential workers—such as carpenters, bus drivers, sanitation workers, vegetable sellers, and domestic helpers—and spoke a few lines about their importance in our daily lives. In a heartwarming act of gratitude, each helper was presented with a chocolate and a handmade card, reflecting the children's appreciation for their service.

The celebration was a meaningful and enriching experience for all, instilling in students a sense of empathy, respect, and thankfulness towards the working community.

Principal, Ms. Ruchi Chabra, in her address, emphasized the importance of such events in fostering awareness among students about the dignity of labour. She encouraged students to always acknowledge and respect every worker’s contribution to society. Vice Principal, Ms. Meenu Gupta, highlighted the critical role of both skilled and unskilled workers in sustaining progress and development, urging students to value every form of honest work.

The Hon’ble President-RCT, Sh. M.K. Ajatshatru Singh Ji, Hon’ble PVC, Dr. Kunwarani Ritu Singh Ji, and Hon’ble Director, Sh. S.S. Sodhi Ji, extended their heartfelt appreciation to all participants and conveyed their best wishes to the hardworking staff of the school.
