Friday, June 20, 2025
Thirteen bright students from Delhi Public School (DPS) Jammu, representing Classes 6 to 12, showcased their talent and curiosity at a week-long STEM Workshop hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu from June 16 to June 22, 2025.
The participants - Mahir Singh Datta, Saanvi Kalra, Atharav Mahajan, Abhiuday Gupta, Vardaan Rastogi, Avnee Gupta, Adway Jamwal, Vighnesh Sharma, Aayush Silwal, Nizam-ul-Haq, Akshat, Rayarth Singh Datta, and Samrath - engaged in hands-on learning in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Python programming, machine learning, electronics, and real-world innovation.
The workshop began on June 16 with a session on Python programming, introducing students to coding fundamentals such as variables, loops, and control structures. On June 17, they explored Machine Learning (ML) and its real-world applications, while gaining familiarity with tools like NumPy and scikit-learn.
June 18 focused on Prompt Engineering, where students learned to design effective prompts for AI systems, including how parameters like temperature and top-k influence responses.
Following a brief technical break on June 19, the workshop resumed on June 20 with a practical session on Arduino and circuit design through the Tinkercad platform. Students built and simulated LED circuits while learning about digital logic and electronic components.
The workshop concluded on June 22 with live Physics Lab experiments, Arduino hardware projects, and an inspiring tour of IIT’s Photospace Lab, where students explored 3D printing technology. They also presented their final projects, demonstrating creativity and strong conceptual understanding.
Throughout the program, DPS Jammu students stood out for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and keen interest in technology. They shared that the experience expanded their knowledge and inspired them to explore the field of AI and electronics more deeply. Many expressed excitement about attending future workshops.
The students were mentored and supported throughout the program by Mr. Parshant and Ms. Yogita Devi, who ensured smooth coordination and active engagement.
The workshop was organized and conducted under the expert guidance of the resource persons - Dr. Vijay Kumar Pal, Mr. Ashutosh Vishwakarma, Mr. Vibhu Gupta, Mr. Shubham Kumar, and Mr. Nipun Singh - who ensured that the sessions were interactive, enriching, and impactful for all attendees.
Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chairperson Kunwrani Dr. Ritu Singh expressed heartfelt appreciation to IIT Jammu for the initiative, saying,
“We are proud of our students for representing DPS Jammu so brilliantly. This workshop gave them valuable exposure to cutting-edge technologies and sparked a spirit of innovation essential for their future.”
Hon’ble President-RCT Sh. M.K. Ajatshatru Singh, Hon’ble Director Sh. S.S. Sodhi, along with Principal Ms. Ruchi Chabra and the school staff also conveyed gratitude to the IIT Jammu faculty for their dedication, mentorship, and the rich learning experience they provided.
This workshop marks an important step in DPS Jammu’s commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity and future-ready skills. It empowered students to think beyond textbooks and envision themselves as innovators and change makers in a technology-driven world.
